Silicone sponge cords

Circular section cords in cellular VMQ silicone, with a closed-cell structure that delivers low density, high compressibility and elastic recovery for soft sealing and insulation. Formulations compliant with FDA, CE 1935/2004, UL94, EN 45545-2, USP Class VI and ISO 10993.

The product

Circular section in cellular silicone: light weight, compressibility and elastic recovery.

Silicone sponge cords are produced by extrusion of expanded VMQ silicone compounds. The closed-cell structure combines light weight, thermal insulation and elasticity, with densities between 0.25 and 0.6 g/cm³. Food, medical, flame-retardant, antistatic or high-temperature formulations.

Certified cellular silicone formulations

Series 15 – Platinum-cure cellular silicone (foam) for extrusion

Series 15 is a cellular (foam) silicone formulation catalysed with platinum, designed specifically for the extrusion process. Its cellular structure allows lightweight, flexible profiles to be produced, ideal for ensuring sealing on irregular surfaces. Platinum curing gives it higher purity and better mechanical properties compared with standard peroxide foams.

Series 33 – Platinum-cure cellular silicone (foam) fire-retardant (EN 45545-2)

Series 33 is a cellular (foam) silicone blend catalysed with platinum, designed for processing by extrusion. It is characterised by good sealing performance combined with advanced safety properties: good fire resistance and good self-extinguishing behaviour. It complies with the requirements of EN 45545-2 (R22 and R23, HL1 and HL2 levels), making it ideal for lightweight sealing profiles in transport and demanding applications.

Platinum-catalysed cellular silicone, processable by extrusion. It offers good sealing, excellent fire behaviour and self-extinguishing properties, and a wide range of available colours. Specially developed for railway applications and thermal sealing with compliance to EN 45545-2 R22/R23 (HL1–HL2).

Food and medical cellular silicone formulations are extruded in a cleanroom

Cellular silicone cords with platinum-cured formulation certified FDA, CE 1935/2004 or USP Class VI are extruded in the ISO 8 cleanroom of Progress Silicones in France (550 m² validated to ISO 14644-1), with control of particles, temperature and humidity. Platinum curing requires no post-curing, preserving the purity required for sealing in the medical, pharmaceutical and food sectors.
