Foreign body detection

Metal-detectable silicone sheet

VMQ sheet with metal ferrite particles homogeneously distributed throughout the mass. If a fragment of gasket or seal breaks off during production, the line's metal detector identifies it automatically, including particles smaller than 1 mm. The ferrite is white-listed by the FDA and is inert: it does not affect food compliance or the mechanical and thermal properties of the silicone.

The product

Ferrite particles throughout the mass: if a gasket fragment breaks off, the line's metal detector identifies it.

In food and pharmaceutical processing lines, silicone gaskets, seals and coatings are wear components that degrade with use. When a fragment breaks off and falls into the product, standard food-grade silicones — even FDA-certified ones — are invisible to metal detectors: if the fragment goes undetected, it reaches the consumer and reactive traceability means batch recall, regulatory incident or sanction.

Series 2 – Peroxide-cure silicone for general and food-grade use

Series 2 is a peroxide-cured silicone compound designed for versatile processing by extrusion and moulding. It stands out for an exceptionally wide hardness range (10 to 90 Shore A) and the option of food-contact compliance depending on the formulation.

Peroxide-cured silicone compound. Provides excellent thermal stability and the option of food-contact or medical-grade use depending on the formulation.

Series 15 – Platinum-cure cellular silicone (foam) for extrusion

Series 15 is a cellular (foam) silicone formulation catalysed with platinum, designed specifically for the extrusion process. Its cellular structure allows lightweight, flexible profiles to be produced, ideal for ensuring sealing on irregular surfaces. Platinum curing gives it higher purity and better mechanical properties compared with standard peroxide foams.

Detection test with industrial equipment

Batch-by-batch detection threshold verification with real industrial equipment

Each batch of metal-detectable sheet is tested with an industrial metal detector equivalent to the one the customer operates on the production line — conveyor belt, pipeline tunnel or free fall. The test confirms that the material meets the declared detection threshold (fragments < 1 mm) before leaving the workshop.

The distribution of ferrite in the compound must be homogeneous: zones with fewer particles would give false negatives on the line. The test is carried out on samples taken from the ends and the centre of the roll, ensuring that the magnetic response is stable along the entire sheet.

Each batch is delivered with a certificate of conformity, detection test result, raw material traceability (silicone + ferrite) and packaging in blue for visual identification. HACCP, IFS or BRC documentation on request.
