What the sector demands

Chemical resistance, sterilisation cycles, biocompatibility and thermal stability.

Silicone or FVMQ components in the laboratory sector operate in contact with reagents, organic solvents, diluted acids and bases, mineral oils and biological samples. Repeated sterilisation (autoclave 121-134 °C, ethylene oxide, gamma radiation) requires stable mechanical properties after prolonged cycles. For biotechnology and peristaltic pumping of cell cultures, USP Class VI and ISO 10993 tests apply; for petrochemical environments with solvents or fuels, FVMQ (Series 13) is applied.

Four technical requirements

Chemical · sterilisation · biocompatibility · thermal stability

01

Wide chemical resistance

Peroxide-cure and platinum-cure VMQ resistant to diluted acids, bases, water for injection, alcohols and common laboratory reagents. FVMQ (Series 13) adds specific resistance to mineral oils, fuels, kerosene and chlorinated or aromatic organic solvents. NF ISO 1817 immersion tests available depending on service fluid.

02

Repeated sterilisation

Compatibility with autoclave (saturated steam 121-134 °C, ISO 17665), ethylene oxide (EtO, ISO 11135) and gamma radiation 25-40 kGy (ISO 11137). Series 14 is optimised for autoclave; platinum-cure series S10/S12/S17/S30 cover EtO and gamma with mechanical properties validated per batch.

03

USP / ISO biocompatibility

USP Class VI and ISO 10993-1/-5/-10 tests available in platinum-cure series S10, S12, S17 and S30. Series 17 (NuSil base) is qualified short-term implantable (

04

Wide thermal stability

Operating range from −110 °C in cryogenic versions (PVMQ Series 5) up to +315 °C transient in high temperature (VMQ Series 9). Mechanical stability in prolonged thermal cycles with accelerated ageing NF ISO 188 documented per batch.

Manufacturing under purity control

ISO 8 cleanrooms with dedicated lines for biotechnology and chemistry

The Apt plant (France, 550 m² ISO 8) runs extrusion and moulding of silicone and FVMQ for laboratory and petrochemicals under ISO 9001 and ISO 13485. Top Tech Silicones (Italy, 1,500 m²) provides LSR injection for biotechnology with six dedicated presses. Each batch ships with the compound CoA, mechanical data sheet, ISO 3302-1 dimensional control plan and reference to applicable USP / ISO 10993 tests.

Batch traceability

Each batch ships with CoA, available tests and reference to the applicable standard

The base polymer arrives with the supplier CoA and technical declaration aligned with the chemical family (peroxide-cure VMQ, platinum-cure VMQ or FVMQ). Each banbury assigns a unique batch number · the mixing line is cleaned between insulating and conductive series or between FVMQ and VMQ to avoid cross-contamination. Post-curing in a sealed stainless steel oven to remove residual volatiles.

Each shipment ships with a certificate of conformity, the compound mechanical data sheet (tensile NF ISO 37, hardness NF ISO 7619-1, compression set NF ISO 815-1, ageing NF ISO 188), the ISO 3302-1 E1 (extrusion) or M2 (moulding) dimensional control plan and reference to the USP Class VI, ISO 10993, NF ISO 1817 and ISO 17665/11135/11137 tests available depending on application.
