What the sector demands

Stable optical transparency, environmental sealing, flame retardancy and continuous UV exposure.

Silicone components for LED lighting operate under continuous UV radiation, humidity, outdoor exposure and prolonged thermal cycles without yellowing, losing light transmission or breaking luminaire sealing. Electrical safety of the luminaire is governed by EN 60598; the degree of protection (IP65, IP66, IP67) by IEC 60529; polymer flammability by UL94 V-0. Each formulation is tested before series approval and each batch ships with the compound CoA and dimensional control plan.

Stable optical transparency

Platinum cure with no volatile by-products that degrade light transmission. Translucent and transparent versions for LSR-injected optics, secondary lenses and light guides in LED luminaires. Colour stability after thermal cycles and prolonged UV exposure.

IP65-IP67 sealing

IEC 60529 sets the degree of protection against dust and water. IP65: dust-tight and resistant to water jets. IP66: powerful jets. IP67: temporary immersion. Silicone selection (solid or cellular Series 15) and gasket geometry drive the final rating after assembly.

UL94 V-0 flammability

Series with UL94 V-0 coverage tested in the formulation, required in luminaires installed in regulated sectors (public, transport, healthcare, industrial). For railway scenarios, EN 45545-2 also applies to flame-retardant series S16 and S33.

UV, ozone and humidity resistance

Natural resistance of VMQ and PVMQ to continuous UV radiation without yellowing, to atmospheric ozone and to weather humidity. Suitable for outdoor lighting, industrial floodlights, urban lighting and architectural luminaires with exposure to the elements.

Manufacturing under optical control

ISO 8 cleanroom with dedicated LSR line for optical components

The Apt plant (France, 550 m² ISO 8) runs extrusion and moulding of optical compounds under ISO 9001. Top Tech Silicones (Italy, 1,500 m²) concentrates LSR injection with six dedicated presses, including an optical line for secondary optics, lenses and light guides injected directly onto the luminaire body. Each batch ships with the compound CoA, mechanical data sheet and reference to applicable UL94 / EN 60598 tests.

  • Standards UL94 V-0 and EN 45545-2 are at formulation level · they belong to the compound. EN 60598 and IEC 60529 apply to the assembled luminaire · they are met by the equipment manufacturer, not by the elastomer supplier. Silicone provides the seal and the optical material under UL94 V-0; IP65-IP67 assembly is certified by the customer.
  • For luminaires intended for railway vehicles, EN 45545-2 with HL1-HL3 classification on the formulation also applies · see solid S16 and fire-retardant cellular S33 series.

Platinum-cure VMQ · Shore A 20-90 (widest range in the platinum-cure catalogue) · range −60 / +200 °C (+300 °C transient). Translucent and transparent versions for secondary optics, injected lenses, light guides and diffuser elements. No volatile by-products that degrade light transmission over time.

S10 · High-tear platinum

Platinum-cure VMQ · Shore A 40-80 · high tear (33-55 kN/m) · no volatile by-products. For sealing gaskets, enclosure sealing of industrial floodlights and luminaires with frequent handling during maintenance. Added mechanical resistance without losing platinum purity.

S30 · Injection LSR

Platinum-cure VMQ · Shore A 50-65 · range −60 / +180 °C (+215 °C transient). For LSR injection directly onto luminaire body or plastic enclosure · secondary optics, sealed connectors and optical components with complex geometry. Available only in extrusion and LSR.

S33 · Flame-retardant cellular

Flame-retardant cellular VMQ catalysed with platinum · closed-cell structure · EN 45545-2 HL1 and HL2 classification. For sealing profiles in railway luminaires, on-board floodlights and systems with dual sealing and fire behaviour requirements.

Batch traceability

Each optical batch ships with its mechanical data sheet and reference to UL94 / EN 60598

The base polymer arrives with the supplier CoA and technical declaration of light transmission, refractive index and UV stability. Each banbury assigns a unique batch number maintained from formulation to packaging · mixing, calendering, LSR injection or extrusion, post-curing in a sealed stainless steel oven and ISO 3302-1 dimensional control.

Each shipment ships with a certificate of conformity, the compound mechanical data sheet (tensile NF ISO 37, hardness NF ISO 7619-1, tear NF ISO 34-1, ageing NF ISO 188), reference to the applicable UL94 V-0 tests, E1/M2 dimensional control plan and REACH / RoHS records. The IP65-IP67 validation of the assembled unit is confirmed by the luminaire manufacturer.
